Who is the most important person in your life? The answer for many of us might be the same- our mothers. My mother is the epitome of beauty for me, her eyes full of love and smile that radiate warmth. The most difficult part of growing up is to watch our parents grow old. Let me take you back to the time when I was a little girl, running around her mother, annoying her to no end. I started noticing that her skin lacked lustre and there started to appear signs of fine lines and wrinkles, saggy skin, and a slight hint of hyperpigmentation.
That was the time when Indian market was newly introduced to anti-wrinkle creams and I, like many of us, implored my mother to come with me to a cosmetics shop to buy one for herself. It was a night cream which she duly applied before going to bed. However, she woke up coughing with a sore throat. She did not think much of it and applied again before going to bed. The next morning, she woke up with the same condition. She thought it must be the air conditioner so the following night she applied the cream again and slept in the drawing room with only the fan running. She woke up again with the same condition, coughing with sore throat. The only thing that was added in her routine was the night cream. So, this night she did not apply the cream and slept in the drawing room under the fan only to test if it was the cream which caused the coughing and sore throat. She woke up fine, no coughing, no sore throat. This was my first exposure to how harmful anti-wrinkle/anti-aging creams with synthetic ingredients can be.

The Beginning of a Purpose
After this incident, I started exploring how to make creams with natural ingredients available at home but nothing was worthy of the highly competitive market that is the cosmetics industry. I was very sure that this was the industry for me and natural skincare products is what I wanted to make but my mother, like a typical Asian mother was very firm in her decision that she would not let me do it if I did not get a degree in natural skincare formulation.
